What do people most often criticize about you? This question is posed to delve a little deeper and find out what traits you might have that could irk them, or irritate customers. Its important to answer this with diligence and again, in a way that makes your ‘bad feature’ show you in a ‘good light’. You can use work examples, or personal examples. It’s more your reaction to the criticism that is important.
Here are some example answers, start with “People criticise me for”:
Telling it like it is– “People often say I get straight to the point, or don’t ‘Beat about the bush’. I am never mean, and I really don’t think that it is a bad thing to not pussyfoot around an issue.”
Being emotional– “People sometimes say I am too emotional and that I get too involved, however when I am dealing with unwell patients and their families, I don’t think showing a little human emotion, empathy and sympathy is a bad thing.”
Being critical– “I have a very keen attention to detail and like everything to be right. Some people consider this being critical, I just consider it essential to making sure our clients get exactly what they asked for. If they want substandard work then we have plenty of competitors that can offer them that. I offer perfection!”
Being overly sensible/serious: “People often say I take things too seriously. I am often more aware of dangers than others around me I must admit, but I don’t see a problem with being diligent. Also I don’t think the workplace is the place to horseplay too much. I don’t mind a joke now and then, but I am more interested in the job getting done.”
Working too slow: “People have said I take longer than most to serve the customers at the bar, however when it is not packed I enjoy taking an extra few minutes to build a little rapport with the customers, it can make the difference between them staying for another round, or leaving for another bar.”
Working too fast: “People have said that I sometimes work too quickly and then finish the job with too much time to spare. I always find something else to do, and my work is always good quality, so I don’t see why it should be a problem?”
I am too nice: “People have often said that I sometimes am too nice to people, and that I should be a little tougher. I am only that way because I believe everyone deserves respect, even if they aren’t being very nice to me.”
Good luck !
