As I recall, in the book, the only reason to wear the locket proffered is basically just that Harry doesn't want to lose it (I'm paraphrasing of course, but that's the gist of it). On its face, this seems fine; But given what Harry and the trio know by this point, it's really just down right illogical and unsatisfying.
