Is there a such thing as time?
Time is not absolute
Einstein's general theory of relativity established time as a physical thing: it is part of space-time, the gravitational field produced by massive objects. The presence of mass warps space-time, with the result that time passes more slowly close to a massive body such as Earth.
Is time an illusion?
According to theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli, time is an illusion: our naive perception of its flow doesn't correspond to physical reality. Indeed, as Rovelli argues in The Order of Time, much more is illusory, including Isaac Newton's picture of a universally ticking clock.Does time actually exist?
Does time exist? The answer to this question may seem obvious: of course it does! Just look at a calendar or a clock. But developments in physics suggest the non-existence of time is an open possibility, and one that we should take seriously. Is there such a thing as no time?
Julian Barbour's solution to the problem of time in physics and cosmology is as simply stated as it is radical: there is no such thing as time. “If you try to get your hands on time, it's always slipping through your fingers,” says Barbour. “People are sure time is there, but they can't get hold of it.Is time a concept or a real thing?
To many physicists, while we experience time as psychologically real, time is not fundamentally real. At the deepest foundations of nature, time is not a primitive, irreducible element or concept required to construct reality. The idea that time is not real is counterintuitive.Does time exist? - Andrew Zimmerman Jones
Does the past still exist?
In short, space-time would contain the entire history of reality, with each past, present or future event occupying a clearly determined place in it, from the very beginning and for ever. The past would therefore still exist, just as the future already exists, but somewhere other than where we are now present. Can time be stopped?
The simple answer is, "Yes, it is possible to stop time. All you need to do is travel at light speed." The practice is, admittedly, a bit more difficult. Addressing this issue requires a more thorough exposition on Special Relativity, the first of Einstein's two Relativity Theories.Did Einstein believe in time?
Time seems to follow a universal, ticktock rhythm. But it doesn't. In the Special Theory of Relativity, Einstein determined that time is relative—in other words, the rate at which time passes depends on your frame of reference. Why did Einstein say time is an illusion?
As For Einstein...As we saw from Einstein's quote, he believed that time is an illusion, that both the future and the past are unchangeable, and will play out exactly the way they were meant to.
Can the future affect the past?
This idea that the future can influence the present, and that the present can influence the past, is known as retrocausality. It has been around for a while without ever catching on – and for good reason, because we never see effects happen before their causes in everyday life.Is reality an illusion?
The further quantum physicists peer into the nature of reality, the more evidence they are finding that everything is energy at the most fundamental levels. Reality is merely an illusion, although a very persistent one. What else can we do in the face of what scientists have discovered about reality? It's unbelievable! Why is life an illusion?
An individual life may seem more or less meaningful depending on how it is lived, but even the most meaningful lives will end and be forgotten. Jean-Paul Sartre said that the moment we realize we are not immortal, we see the meaning of life as an illusion.Who made time?
The measurement of time began with the invention of sundials in ancient Egypt some time prior to 1500 B.C. However, the time the Egyptians measured was not the same as the time today's clocks measure. For the Egyptians, and indeed for a further three millennia, the basic unit of time was the period of daylight. Can time travel is possible?
Time travel to the past is theoretically possible in certain general relativity spacetime geometries that permit traveling faster than the speed of light, such as cosmic strings, traversable wormholes, and Alcubierre drives. Can time go backwards?
[+] Most importantly, time always appears to run forward, never backwards. In other words, there is a perceived arrow of time, and there is a thermodynamic arrow of time, and they both always point in the forward direction. When did time begin?
According to the standard big bang model of cosmology, time began together with the universe in a singularity approximately 14 billion years ago.Is the future an illusion?
But not to most physicists. Albert Einstein once wrote: People like us who believe in physics know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion. Time, in other words, he said, is an illusion. Many physicists since have shared this view, that true reality is timeless. Is time finite or infinite?
As a universe, a vast collection of animate and inanimate objects, time is infinite. Even if there was a beginning, and there might be a big bang end, it won't really be an end. The energy left behind will become something else; the end will be a beginning. Can past present and future exist simultaneously?
If everything is happening simultaneously — your past, present, future laid out in space — then it would be impossible to create “grandfather paradoxes.” You wouldn't be making any catastrophic changes. Instead, you will only travel through time and experience it as it is and as it always would be.Why time is not an illusion?
They call the flow of time an illusion. But if the flow of time does not appear in their theory, that doesn't mean that the flow should be dismissed; it means that their theory is incomplete. The legitimate goal of physics is to account for reality, not to deny it.Does Einstein Believe in God?
Albert Einstein's religious views have been widely studied and often misunderstood. Albert Einstein stated that he believed in the pantheistic God of Baruch Spinoza. He did not believe in a personal God who concerns himself with fates and actions of human beings, a view which he described as naive. Is the present an illusion?
“If you think that what is real is the present, you're wrong. The past and the future are both real. The present is a psychological illusion. How do you unfreeze time?
Time is not a mechanism, it is simply an observation of relative motion. You cannot freeze or unfreeze time. What is inside a black hole?
The singularity at the center of a black hole is the ultimate no man's land: a place where matter is compressed down to an infinitely tiny point, and all conceptions of time and space completely break down. And it doesn't really exist.
