How long does it take for an Oyster card to be delivered?

How long will it take to deliver my order? All orders of Travelcards and Visitor Oyster cards are dispatched within 24 hours of being placed, Monday to Friday.

Why has my Oyster card not arrived yet?

If you have chosen 1st class delivery and it has not arrived, you need to let us know so we can stop the card. If we are satisfied that you have not received it a new Oyster card will then be sent to you. This will be sent by 1st class post, or you can request a refund of the original price paid.

Can I put Oyster card on phone?

TfL has launched its own official smartphone app, for checking Oyster card balances. The new app enables iPhone and Android smartphone owners to use their phone to add pay as you go credit or Travelcards to their Oyster card.

Can I use my Railcard before it arrives?

If you have purchased a digital 16-25 Railcard, it will be available to use straight away. A download code will be sent to your registered email address, along with instructions on how to download your Railcard. You cannot travel on discounted tickets until you have received your Railcard.

Is Oyster cheaper than contactless?

There is a very small financial advantage to using a contactless card if you're in London for more than a week and travel extensively every single day (weekly capping) but otherwise it's no cheaper than using an Oyster.

Can I cash in my Oyster card?

If you've only got a tenner or less sitting on the card, you can even get it refunded directly at a station. There's an “Oyster refund” option in the ticket machines you can use for this, which should give you your balance back in cash.

Where can I find my Oyster card number?

The card number is the 12 digits in the upper right corner on the reverse of the card. When you register it online, you need not add the space between the first ten digits and the last two. Brilliant!

How much does a new Oyster card cost?

You need to pay £5 and add a minimum amount of pay as you go credit, or a season ticket to your new card to use it straight away. Once you've got your new Oyster card, you can use our TfL Oyster and contactless app.

Are Oyster cards worth it?

An Oyster card may be the most cost-effective option if you are only visiting for a few days. A 7 Day Travelcard is a good option if you are visiting for a week and only plan to visit central London. You can also use contactless payment, which has both a daily and weekly fare cap.

Can I use my over 60 Oyster card before 9.30 on buses?

Older Person's Freedom Passes provide free travel in London and on bus services elsewhere in the country. But since June last year, neither card can be used for free travel before 9am on weekdays.

Can a child use an Oyster card?

Children aged 11-15 can get free and discounted travel on all our transport services with a Zip Oyster photocard.

Do Oyster cards expire?

Unused credit on your Visitor Oyster card

The pay as you go credit on your Visitor Oyster card never expires so you can keep your card until your next visit, or lend it to family and friends. If you don't need your Visitor Oyster card, you can get the remaining credit refunded.

Is Oyster card refundable?

Claim a refund in person

If your remaining credit is £10 or less, you can get a refund for the credit, and any deposit, from a Tube station ticket machine. Your Oyster card will be cancelled when we process this refund.

What happens if Oyster card goes negative?

If you didn't have any pay as you go credit on your Oyster card, your balance will be negative and you will need to top up your card before you can travel again - even if you have a valid Travelcard.

Can I use my Oyster card to get to Gatwick?

Using an Oyster card on Gatwick Express

You can use your Oyster card to pay for journeys on the Gatwick Express. Simply touch the card on the yellow Oyster card reader at the gates to the platform at Gatwick station or London Victoria. Remember, you'll get the best price when you buy your Gatwick Express ticket online.

How long does it take to get a Railcard at the station?

Physical Railcard: we aim to dispatch your Railcard within one working day of you ordering it, but it's probably best to allow 5-7 working days for your Railcard to arrive.

Can I buy and use a Railcard on the same day?

You can buy a 16-25 Railcard at any staffed station ticket office or National Rail-licensed Travel Agent. You can do it on the day you are travelling, just ensure the ticket office is open.

Can you use a photo of a Railcard?

The image should be a good recognisable likeness of you. We prefer colour pictures but black and white images are acceptable. Your head and shoulders should be in close-up, with your face clearly visible and filling approximately 70% of the frame (in the same way it would for a passport or driving licence).
