Please check your font smoothing options in Adobe Reader X under 'Edit' >> 'Preferences' >> 'Page Display'. In there you should see an option for 'Smooth Text'. Please ensure that you have smoothing selected for laptop and lcd screens and try opening another pdf. Hope this helps.
