Why do people tape Tyvek seams?

Do you tape Tyvek at the bottom?

Can you use blue Tuck tape on Tyvek?

No. Duct tape is not designed to be used with Tyvek^® sheet.

How much do you overlap Tyvek?

Upper layer of Tyvek® WRB should overlap bottom layer by a minimum of 6”. Refer to the DuPont™ Self-Adhered Flashing Systems Installation Guidelines to prepare and flash window and door openings. NOTE: If windows are already installed, the Tyvek® WRB must be integrated with proper shingling with window flashings.

Does Tyvek go over flashing?

Lap Tyvek® WRB over all flashing (e.g. step flashing, wall to roof intersections and through wall flashings).

Can you put two layers of Tyvek?

There is no problem with doing this. Housewrap is "breathable" by design so you won't trap moisture anywhere. You could build a wall with ten layers of housewrap and it would be more durable, not less.

Can you use duct tape on Tyvek?

Duct tape won't cut it; it's too porous. We used the Tyvek and it's worked well so far. Don't use it on hard wood floors as painter's tape; it'll rip the polyurethane right off of the floor (lesson learned).

If you want to make sure that your house is well protected from wind and water, your house wrap overlap must not be less than 6 inches and even then, you should tape the seam. This is the only way to be sure that you've made a weather-tight bond.

The bulk of that added thickness seems to be from additional adhesive; the blue roll is quite squishy and is really wavy, while the red roll is much firmer.
