His plan has to be admired for its cunning. He would encourage Bothwell in the plan to murder Darnley and would defend him from being implicated (in accordance with the understanding reached at the Craigmillar). He would then persuade Mary to marry him to protect her throne.
Now Lord Bothwell was sent to his final residence, Dragsholm Castle. He was held in what were said to be appalling conditions. He died in April 1578. A pillar to which he was chained for the last ten years of his life can still be seen, with a circular groove in the floor around the pillar.
Later that year, while the Queen was in the Highlands, he escaped and went to Hermitage Castle. The Queen and Bothwell were by now very close. When Bothwell married Lady Jean Gordon, daughter of The 4th Earl of Huntly, in February 1566, the Queen attended the wedding (the marriage lasted just over a year).
In June 1573, after the collapse of Mary's cause in Scotland, Bothwell was placed in solitary confinement at Dragsholm Castle, where he died, insane, five years later. Mary had obtained an annulment of their marriage in 1570.

On 15 May 1567, Mary and Bothwell were married at Holyrood according to the Protestant rites. Mary was either so desperate - or so madly in love with Bothwell - that she now appeared to give up even her Catholicism for him.

Season 2. John Philip was born in a barn during The Black Plague outbreak in France in 1558. Soon after his mother Lola gave birth to him, his father King Francis, arrived. Not long after they were all together was it realized the Plague had reached inside the barn, which led the three of them to quickly flee.
Jean-Philippe Valois Angoulême (English: John-Philip) is the illegitimate son of Francis and Lola. He was officially claimed by his father in The Lamb and the Slaughter, receiving the title of 1st Baron of Velay. He returns to French Court in Leaps of Faith, where he was with Lola as she was Elizabeth's prisoner.
Greer was forced to move away from the castle while Castleroy was sent to prison. Later on, Greer was able to find her own independence by becoming a Madam and opening a brothel. Her and Leith got back together but their reunion was short-lived.

After a prophecy that predicted Francis' death if he were to wed Mary, Mary told King Henry she would only claim the English throne if she was married to Bash. The process of legitimizing Bash to become the next heir, King of France and husband to Mary had began.
