Can you take a spur of a spur?
There is no problem in spurring off a fused spur (I think that's what you mean). The principle is you just need to protect the cable. This week I've seen a unfused spur from a socket on the ring to a single socket (in 2.5 6262Y) - then from the single socket to a FCU in 1.5 6242Y for the boiler. Is it OK to spur off a spur?
The reason for not running two spurs from the same spur "point" is that it can lead to possible overloads in that one leg of the final can become unbalanced and exceed the max.Can you fuse spur off a spur?
the regs say you can have unlimited fused spurs but only the same number of unfused spurs as there is sockets but you cannot spur of a spur fused or unfused, regards Terry. How many Spurs can you have off a fused spur?
The limit of one spur per point is if the point which is spurred off is UNFUSED. If you fuse it to 13A you can put as many as you want on it.How many sockets can I run off a spur?
How Many Sockets Can Be on a Spur? Only one spur can be connected to a single socket.SPURS ON SPURS Extending Circuits
Can you add a socket to a spur?
The easiest way of connecting into a ring circuit is to run a spur cable from the terminals of an existing socket – but you can't connect it to any socket. The IEE Wiring Regulations are very specific about this. You mustn't run a spur from a socket that's already on a spur, or that already supplies a spur. Can I take a spur off a ring main?
Branches know as spurs may be taken off the ring from any socket or by breaking into one of the cables of the ring. They can either be non-fused which connect directly to the ring or can be a fused spur which connect to the ring via a switched or unswitched-fused connection unit. Can I change a fused spur to a socket?
As long as the spur is being fed directly from the ring yes just replace the fused spur with a socket. Can you convert a fused spur to a socket?
1 Answer from a MyBuilder ElectricianThere is no problem removing 13amp fused spurs and replacing with socket outlets. You just need to ensure that those circuits (fuses/mcb's) are backed up by a 30ma RCD as they will now be used to supply mobile equipment rather than fixed.
Can you put a double socket on a fused spur?
If the circuit is a ring circuit then an unfused spur can supply a maximum of one single or one double socket. A fused spur, as you propose, can supply an unlimited number of sockets with a maximum load of 13A.How long can a spur off a ring main be?
Section 7.2. 2 of the OSG says 'as a rule of thumb for rings, unfused spur lengths should not exceed 1/8 the cable length from the spur to the furthest point of the ring'.Can a fused spur be part of the ring main?
A fused spur is an electrical supply accessory that incorporates a fuse. This fuse, with a lower rating than the fuse for a ring man, allows an electrical supply using one feed cable to a socket to be taken off a ring main. How many sockets can I run off one fuse?
you can have maximum one double socket as a normal spur but if you are going from socket to FCU fused at 13 amp from there you can add as many sockets as you wish as all the sockets and cable will be protected by the fuse so no chance of overloading the cable the fuse will blow first. How many Spurs can you take off a ring main?
Answered by Rupert, Electrical Safety ExpertYou can have one unfused spur per socket-outlet on a ring main or one fused spur per socket-outlet, you can have as many sockets as you like off of a fused spur.
Can I add more sockets to a ring main?
Make sure the power is turned off and any circuits you are working on are completely isolated. See our electrical safety project. If you need extra sockets in a new room or turn an old room into an office, it may not be possible to add extra sockets from your existing ring main. Can I take a spur from a junction box?
Regs say a spur cannot be taken from an existing spur, or from a socket already feeding a spur... But it's not, it's from the junction box...Can I install a fused spur myself?
As long as the job isn't within a 'special location' such as a bathroom or outdoors, you're also allowed to install additional new light fittings, switches, sockets and even add a single fused spur to an existing circuit (a 'spur' is a new cable and socket run as a branch from an existing socket on the ring main).Does a spur have to be fused?
As we have stated, you can only wire a single spur socket from an existing socket or junction box, however if you need to add more sockets then you will first need to install a fused connection unit or FCU.Can you spur off a ring main in 1.5 mm?
no because you will have a 32 amp mcb protecting a 1.5mm2 cable. What is an unfused spur?
An unfused spur consists of a conductor, of suitable current-carrying capacity, connected to the terminals of the circuit's overcurrent protective device in the consumer unit, or directly to either the terminals of an accessory such as a socket-outlet or a junction box without further overcurrent protection being ...What can you run off a spur?
The maximum load you can run from a spur is 13A (Approx 3kW). If the sockets are fed from a fused connection unit (and fused at 13A) then the number of sockets supplied could in theory be as many as you want - providing that the total load of what ever you connect/use simultaneously doesn't exceed 13A.Are ring mains still used?
Yes, ring mains (more correctly called ring final circuits these days) were and still are the norm for most UK dwellings. A very common arrangement was two ring final circuits, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.
