Can you paint straight onto filler?

If the filled area was very large I might wack a thinned coat of paint over it just to make sure that it all sealed off properly and to check it looked OK but I wouldn't normally over small areas. As a rule I put 2 coats over filler otherwise it can flash.

Can you paint directly on filler?
