Are contrast paints just washes?

What makes the Contrast line of paints different is the consistency of the paint itself. It's very, very thin and tends to want to pool in recesses like a wash. But it's much more substantial than a wash, and can be applied in thin layers to boost the vibrancy of a given color.

Contrast paints are a paint formulated by Games Workshop to help assist new painters or even those who choose to speed up their painting process. Contrast paints are designed to base coat, shade and highlight the miniature in a single coat and most commonly used over a light undercoat.

If you factor in dry time (probably 20-30 minutes) you'll be able to knock out a squad of 10 in under an hour with a single color. And the results are pretty good, too. The Contrast line will (hopefully) make it much less intimidating to tackle new projects (or finish off old ones).

Can you paint over contrast paint?
