An Aircraft Technician will be responsible for maintaining and repairing aircraft. You could be having an interview for a major airline or maybe working as part of the military and a private aircraft etc. It will depend on the size of the aircraft that you are dealing with as to what you will be doing on a daily basis but the principles remain the same.

You will need to be a qualified technician to do this role with some work experience under your belt. Until this has been achieved you will work under a qualified technician and be mentored to gain enough experience.

It’s never easy to work at an airport. Very early starts like 3am in the morning and long hours makes it difficult to cope. Airports are open all around the year so you would have to work on public holidays too if your shift says so.

If you are getting ready for your interview, make sure that you have researched who the interview is for thoroughly and exactly what the role involves. Match this with your CV and the skills and qualifications that you have and ensure that you feel confident before stepping into any interview.
During your interview you may be asked questions such as:

  • How long have you been training to be an aircraft technician and what made you decide to go down this career path?
  • To be an aircraft technician you need to have a technical and methodical mind, have you always had been like this and what is your earliest memory?
  • Name 5 types of parts in an aircraft that you would work on?
  • Talk me through a process of doing routine maintenance checks on an aircraft?

Your interviewer will be trying to find out how well you can work as part of a team as most dealings will be a team effort but at the same time you will need to work on your own initiative to do the sections that you are working on. You will need to use your knowledge and experience to demonstrate how you can achieve this in a very hands on role.

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • Why do you want this job?
  • Where would you like to be in your career five years from now?
  • What’s your ideal company?
  • What attracted you to this company?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • What did you like least about your last job?
  • When were you most satisfied in your job?
  • What can you do for us that other candidates can’t?
  • What were the responsibilities of your last position?

Good luck.
