Tell Me Your Ability to Work Under Pressure

You would think this would be an easy question to answer and in some instances it may be however for those that think they find pressure difficult the answer you give to this question needs to be spot on!

All employers know that at certain periods the pressure at work is really on and they need everyone to step up to the game or they have problems. You are being asked this question because there will be periods of pressure and in a way it is like forewarning you.

So how do you deal with pressure and how do you deal with the question?
Easy, answer the question calmly and say something like:

  • I have always worked in a pressurised environment so to me it’s kind of normal. In the last company I worked for the team was small so it was always hands to the pump and when we had busier times we just worked harder as a team to make sure that we all got the extra work done.
  • I try to stay calm and make a list of what needs to be done and prioritise them and just work through it as quickly and efficiently as I can.
  • I thrive on a bit of stress, I seem to work better in busier more pressurised environments and I just work through the workload I have one by one.

Hopefully you will have had periods of high pressure in other roles or maybe at university before exams or even school for that matter. If the pressure has not been directly related to employment use something else such as education, if you play a team sport or something, you can use these to describe how you handle pressure and what you do to get through it.
